Tsunami by darren lee

A tsunami is a very big and tall wave of water that can cause lots of destruction. Tsunamis happen when there is a disturbance like an earthquake or landslide happens in a large body of water. When an earthquake happens underwater, the movement pushes water out of the way. The movement causes waves to spread in all directions at the speed of hundreds of miles an hour and at the height of one meter or above. When the waves hit shore they will slow down but become very tall.
A tsunami may take a long time to reach the shore, so agencies have invented an alarm system that can warn people about tsunamis. The alarm senses pressure underwater and sends warning by satellites. The coastguards will get the warning first and will ask everybody on the beach to evacuate. Other people that are not on the beach will get the warning through their mobile phones. When we get the signal we should flee to higher ground. I can do my part by donating to tsunami victims.
